What's happening at Steel City Improv Theater AND BEYOND

ALEXDJ with Sizemic Activity

So what is the answer to that old timeless condundrum of what happens when an Computer Engineer meets up with an Epigone Poet on stage? AlexDJ is like Severn Darden and Elaine May had kids and only let them watch The Monkees, Spike Jones and listen to Skintree! O how the zaniness ensues…from becoming a snail, two cows eating grass, and that all needed answer to what happen Marys’ lost shoes. So come on down and join in the fun! Also watch the beauty and grace of Sizemic Activity who open this magical show of wonders and glee!

TRANSLATED: This show will be pretty good, because Alex & DJ have similar comic sensibilities. The Monkees are cool, Spike Jones is cool, Skintree sucks, but I guess they both like screaming. There will be crazy things that will happen, so please buy a ticket to our show and laugh at us doing zany stuff. Sizemic Activity (Justin Vetter, Nicole Antonuccio) will be our opener, and they’re pretty great, too.

CRIME SCENE IMPROV: FRIDAY AT 9:30

Crime Scene Improv. In the seedy underbelly of any city, countless
crimes are committed. The first to respond are Crime Scene
Investigators. Spend the night witnessing a crime, investigating the
crime and hopefully a confession. It’d be a crime…to miss it. YEAH!

HAIL, POETRY!

HAIL, POETRY! The SCIT’s first fully improvised operetta makes it debut over two nights this weekend! Friday, May 18 & Saturday, May 19, both at 8pm.

Come to the Steel City Improv Theater May 18th & 19th at 8pm for the SCIT’s first fully improvised operettas!

Veteran performers from Pittsburgh’s Savoyards are teaming up with SCIT’s seasoned improvisers for night of punctilious plots and Victorian vocals made up entirely on the spot. We’ve jibe and joke, and quip and crank, for lowly folk and men of rank!

Come down for a joyous good time if you like rhyme! Take an extended leave if you like recitative! And if arias entice, why not see it twice? Each show will be completely different based on your delightful suggestions.

Just $5 American dollars!

Bricolage is looking for improvisers!

Bricolage is an incredibly cool and interesting theater company downtown. They’re currently casting for their new production, STRATA - and they’re looking for improvisers. Jump at the chance to work work with this awesome company! Details Below, or HERE

Bricolage is holding non-Equity auditions for STRATA on May 22-23, 2012. Auditions will take place at Bricolage, 937 Liberty Avenue, downtown.

We are seeking performers aged 27 and up, of all genders and ethnicities. Bricolage is an equal opportunity employer.

STRATA will run August 1 - September 1, with the possibility of extending.
Rehearsals will begin in July.

Auditions will be conducted in small groups. STRATA is an interactive project, and as such we are particularly seeking actors with strong improvisational skills. The cast will be interacting with participants, who will have agency and be asked to make choices. While there will be a skeleton “script,” much of the project is based on improvisation within the world we are creating with STRATA.

Due to the nature of the project, we are not asking auditioners to prepare monologues. Rather, please arrive in comfortable clothes and be prepared to participate in various improvisational activities in a small group setting.

To sign up for a 15-minute audition slot, please email Corinne Neal at corinne [AT ]webbricolage [DOT] org. If you have an electronic headshot & resume, please attach in your email.

Only one night only, there’s a good chance this will never happen again, ever, so be there! Plus, is there anything worse than trying to explain an improv set to your friend that wasn’t there? Especially when it was hilarious, and the whole crowd was laughing hysterically, and your friend just blows it off and is like “Hm. I guess you had to be there”, and you just want to smack them right in the face.

Don’t be that guy.
